Tom Holland opened up about how "Avengers: Endgame" costar Robert Downey Jr."took me under his wing."

"The amazing thing about RDJ is that he's arguably the most famous movie star on the planet, or the biggest movie star on the planet," Holland said while participating in a panel at a convention called FanX in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday. "But he's always early, he knows every crew member's name, he always knows his lines. He's professional, he's kind, he's caring."

The 23-year-old actor, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," went on to say that Downey Jr. was immediately welcoming to him.

"I was sick on set one day and I didn't really know the guy," Holland said, adding that Downey Jr. invited him to his trailer and was comforting.

"He was really sweet and he kind of looked after me and took me under his wing a little bit," the "Spider-Man: Far From Home" star said. "Entering the Marvel Universe is daunting, it's a big process."

He added: "The thing I've learned most from him, and I've learned from [Chris] Hemsworth and [Chris] Evans and Scarlett [Johansson] and everyone really, is that just because you're at the top, doesn't mean you can be a d---."

Downey Jr.'s character, Iron Man/Tony Stark, acted as a mentor to Holland's young webslinger throughout the movies he has appeared in. Holland also revealed that he has the veteran actor's name saved as "The Godfather" in his phone and thought their friendship was over after he accidentally hung up on Downey Jr.

Despite Tony's heartbreaking death in 2019's "Endgame," the two stars have remained close. Amid news that Holland will be departing the MCU due to a deal between Sony and Marvel falling through, the actors met up to spend time together.

"We did it Mr Stark!" Holland captioned a series of photos of the stars taking selfies together, referencing a similar line that Peter said during Tony's final moments in "Endgame."

We did it Mr Stark!

The 'Avengers: Endgame' directors think it's a 'tragic mistake' by Sony to split Spider-Man from the Marvel movies

spider man far from home

  • Earlier this summer, Marvel Studios and Sony couldn't come to an agreement on how to move forward with sharing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • As of right now, Spider-Man won't be featured in anymore MCU movies and the directors of "Avengers: Endgame" think it's a big mistake on Sony's part.
  • "Spider-Man: Far From Home" became Sony's highest-grossing movie ever this summer. It had the fortune of debuting a few weeks after "Endgame" in theaters and acting as a sequel.
  • Joe Russo told the Toronto Sun he thinks it's a "big mistake" that Sony thinks it can replicate what Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige has done over the past decade.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.

The Russo brothers think Sony made a "tragic mistake" in ending their Spider-Man deal with Marvel. In early 2015, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures reached an unprecedented agreement that allowed Spider-Man to be reinvented as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sadly, that deal has now ended, and the two studios have parted ways.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been a part of the deal from the very beginning, when Marvel first approached Sony in the hope of incorporating Spider-Man into "Captain America: Civil War." They knew how difficult it was to get two rival studios on the same page; as a result, the Russos have said they weren't surprised Marvel and Sony parted ways, but avoided airing their opinions on the split.

Until a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, that is.

In it, the Russos reiterate how much of a delight it was to work with Spider-Man, but Joe Russo goes on to add that he feels Sony will suffer because the deal has ended.

joe anthony russo

"Stepping back and trying to be objective as possible," Joe Russo reflects, "I think it's a tragic mistake on Sony's part to think that they can replicate Kevin [Feige]'s penchant for telling incredible stories and the amazing success he has had over the years. I think it's a big mistake."

The Russos certainly have a point. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is a visionary film-maker who plans things out years in advance; the success of the entire MCU is in large part due to his tremendous skill. Feige was given pretty much sole control of the MCU after a corporate restructure in 2015, and since then the franchise has gone from strength to strength, with a series of high-profile blockbusters.

He seems to have an eye for talent, identifying scriptwriters and directors who can turn a film into a success, and he gives his directors a lot of creative freedom. Spider-Man certainly profited from Feige's leadership, with "Spider-Man: Far From Home" becoming Sony's highest-grossing film ever.

Presumably Sony would disagree, pointing to the success of "Venom," which grossed over $850 million in the global box office. There have been reports they didn't find Feige particularly helpful with "Venom," and as a result they began to feel they'd learned all they needed from him.

Venom Trailer Movie Tom Hardy

Meanwhile, it is possible to overstate the MCU's importance for the latest Spider-Man reboot; while it was a tremendous box-office hit, that may in part be because the superhero genre has never been so big. Six superhero movies have broken $1 billion in the last two years, including the record-breaking "Avengers: Endgame."

Ultimately, only time will tell whether or not the Russo brothers are right.

Sony believes they can incorporate Spider-Man into their Venomverse, replacing Iron Man and Nick Fury team-ups with alliances with Venom and Morbius. MCU fans find the prospect disappointing, to say the least; #SonyIsOver trended for days after the deal broke down. Still, it remains to be seen whether or not casual moviegoers will keep turning up now the wall-crawler has left the MCU.

  • Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion, but it may not have happened without Apple cofounder Steve Jobs' help.
  • In a Vanity Fair excerpt from Bob Iger's new book, "The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company," the Disney CEO recalled how Jobs was essential in making the Disney-Marvel deal happen.

Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion, but it may not have happened if it weren't for Apple cofounder Steve Jobs.

In a Vanity Fair excerpt from Bob Iger's new book, "The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company," the Disney CEO recalled his friendship with Jobs and revealed how Jobs had an essential role in pushing Marvel Disney's way.

"In 2009, after our very successful acquisition of Pixar, we were interested in acquiring Marvel, so I met with Steve and walked him through the business," Iger said. "He claimed to have never read a comic book in his life ('I hate them more than I hate video games,' he told me), so I brought an encyclopedia of Marvel characters with me to explain the universe to him and show him what we would be buying. He spent about 10 seconds looking at it, then pushed it aside and said, 'Is this one important to you? Do you really want it? Is it another Pixar?'"

Jobs was the majority shareholder of Pixar, which Disney acquired in 2006. He was also a board member of The Walt Disney Company.

"I told [Jobs] that I wasn't sure if it was another Pixar, but they had great talent at the company, and the content was so rich that if we held the IP, it would put some real distance between us and everyone else," Iger said.

Iger said that he asked Jobs to reach out to Marvel's chairman and former CEO Ike Perlmutter to "vouch for me."

"Later, after we'd closed the deal, Ike told me that he'd still had his doubts and the call from Steve made a big difference," Iger said. "'He said you were true to your word,' Ike said. I was grateful that Steve was willing to do it as a friend, really, more than as the most influential member of our board."

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grossed over $22.5 billion worldwide over 23 movies (the first few of which were distributed by Paramount). It's safe to say the deal paid off and then some.

Disney originally passed on buying Marvel because some execs thought it would 'tarnish' the brand, according to CEO Bob Iger

  • Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion, but it could have done it earlier if executives hadn't objected.

Since Disney acquired Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion, it has become one of the Mouse House's most lucrative assets thanks to the box-office success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Disney could have bought Marvel even earlier if some executives didn't have objections.

In Bob Iger's new book, "The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned From 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company," the Disney CEO revealed that his predecessor, former CEO Michael Eisner, wanted to buy Marvel.

"Early in my time working for Michael, I attended a staff lunch in which he floated the idea of acquiring [Marvel]; a handful of executives around the table objected,"Iger wrote.

Iger wrote that the executives thought Marvel was "too edgy" for Disney.

"It would tarnish the Disney brand," Iger wrote. "There was an assumption at the time — internally, and among members of the board — that Disney was a single, monolithic brand, and all of our businesses existed beneath the Disney umbrella. I sensed Michael knew better, but any negative reaction to the brand, or suggestion that it wasn't being managed well, he took personally."

When Iger, who became CEO in 2005, wanted to buy Marvel, he enlisted the help of his friend and Apple cofounder Steve Jobs, who was a member of the Walt Disney Company board.

Iger wrote in the book that he asked Jobs to reach out to Marvel's chairman and former CEO Ike Perlmutter to "vouch for me."

"Later, after we'd closed the deal, Ike told me that he'd still had his doubts and the call from Steve made a big difference," Iger said. "'He said you were true to your word,' Ike said. I was grateful that Steve was willing to do it as a friend, really, more than as the most influential member of our board."

The MCU had grossed over $22.5 billion worldwide over 23 movies and "Avengers: Endgame" is the biggest movie of all time with $2.8 billion globally.

The Marvel CEO originally didn’t want to make 'Black Panther' and 'Captain Marvel'

  • In Disney CEO Bob Iger's memoir, "The Ride of a Lifetime," he details Marvel's concerns that movies like "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" shouldn't be made.
  • According to the book, executives in New York said they were concerned a "black-led superhero movie couldn't perform at the box office." One told him, "Female superheroes never drive big box office."
  • Iger thought they were old arguments and ways of thinking and proved them wrong. Both movies made over $1 billion at theaters.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more.

Disney CEO Bob Iger reveals he had to overcome certain roadblocks from Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter to produce "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel."

The films, which each grossed over $1 billion at the global box office, pushed the studio's boundaries. Not only did fans who longed for representation finally see their dream fulfilled onscreen, but Kevin Feige proved Marvel Studios could branch out from the origin stories that populated its previous phases.

Marvel Studios wasn't always a separate entity from Marvel Entertainment, either. In 2015, Disney separated Marvel Studios from Marvel entertainment at the behest of Feige, in order to allow the latter more creative control of the highly successful film franchise.

It was then that the plans for movies like "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" were put into action - the former of which Iger says is the Marvel movie he's most proud of in his new memoir.

captain marvel

Yet it wasn't always smooth sailing to get there. In Iger's memoir, "The Ride of a Lifetime," the CEO delves into some of the backstory behind the split and how it led to the beloved new additions to the MCU.

Before the decision to separate was made, Iger had to overrule a Marvel executive's concerns that a movie like "Black Panther" shouldn't be produced. While this is the first time he has publicly described the details, the leaked emails between Marvel and Sony back his claims.

Feige heartily supported a film about Wakanda, but apparently one of the New York executives (which is where the Marvel Entertainment offices are, run by Ike Perlmutter) raised a few objections. They pointed to Black characters, and presumably films starring Black actors, underperforming globally. Thankfully, Iger did not wish to refer to outdated beliefs and unsupported data, wishing instead to expand opportunities for African-American filmmakers and other Black artists within the industry.

In "The Ride of a Lifetime," he explained just how passionate he was about the need for diversity:

"I've been in the business long enough to have heard every old argument in the book, and I've learned that old arguments are just that: old, and out of step with where the world is and where it should be. We had a chance to make a great movie and to showcase an underrepresented segment of America, and those goals were not mutually exclusive. I called Ike and told him to tell his team to stop putting up roadblocks and ordered that we put both Black Panther and Captain Marvel into production."

What followed was the stuff of legend. Feige went from nearly exiting the company to entering into an elevated position and exercising creative control, allowing Marvel Studios to reach new heights. Marvel Television has since also produced some critical gems, such as Freeform's "Cloak and Dagger" and the later seasons of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," but there's no denying that the commercial glory belongs to the movies. By uniting the economic success with much-needed racial and gender representation, Marvel Studios has touched hearts and pocketbooks alike.

Phase 4, meanwhile, shows no signs of slowing down. Spider-Man may be out, but Black Widow is finally getting her own film after a decade. Meanwhile, both "The Eternals" and "Shang-Chi" promise to bring new perspectives and even more diversity into the universe. Whatever may have been anyone's concerns about introducing T'Challa and Carol Danvers, their immense success as characters and the intense anticipation for "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" sequels serves as proof that Iger and Feige had the right idea all along.

Bob Iger says of all the Disney movies released in his time as CEO he's most proud of 'Black Panther'

Throughout his 15 years as Disney CEO, Bob Iger has broken box-office records with movies including "Frozen" and "Avengers: Endgame." But the movie he's most proud of is "Black Panther."

"I received more calls and notes than I'd ever received about anything I'd been associated with in my career," Iger wrote in his memoir, "The Ride of a Lifetime," about the reaction people had after the world premiere of "Black Panther" in 2018.

"There may be no product we've created that I'm more proud of than 'Black Panther," he continued.

Iger said watching the film at the premiere will remain one of his most memorable career moments. After its screening in January 2018, Spike Lee, Denzel Washington, and Gayle King were among the many people who reached out.

He spoke with President Obama and Oprah sent him a note calling the film a "phenomenon in every way."

"Until then, I'd only seen it during screenings at my house or with a small group at the studio. I knew we had something special, but you're never quite sure how something is going to be received," Iger wrote.

Black Panther

After its massive opening weekend, in which the film grossed over $200 million, Iger shared the four-paragraph email he sent to Disney employees. In it, he said that in the 12 years he had run Disney he had "never seen such an overwhelming outpouring of genuine excitement, praise, respect, and gratitude" as he has seen for "Black Panther."

The film wasn't the easiest one to get made out of the more than 20 that have been released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the book, Iger detailed how he received some pushback from Marvel executives in New York to originally produce the film. They were concerned a "black-led superhero movie couldn't perform at the box office."

"Black Panther" grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide. At Disney's D23 convention this summer, director Ryan Coogler formally announced a sequel to the film for May 6, 2022

Fans who saw the images from the set praised Jolie's look.

"The Eternals" marks the second film set to be released as part of Marvel's fourth phase (the first is a standalone "Black Widow" film that will hit theaters on May 1, 2020). The movie focuses on a group of immortals who have special skills, like super strength and the ability to fly. In the comics, Jolie's character was born in Olympia and is the daughter of Zuras.

Her involvement in "The Eternals" was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20.

"I'm so excited to be here," Jolie said. "I'm going to work 10 times harder because I think what it means to be part of the MCU, what it means to be an Eternal, to be a part of this family, I know what we all need to do. We have all read the script, we all know what the task ahead is, and we know what you deserve, so we are all going to be working very, very hard."

The actress also told People that she's doing "everything from swords to ballet" to prepare for her role. She also revealed the reaction she got from her children.

"What's really moving to me is that they want to see me strong, and so it's less to see me in a film, but they're just happy I will be strong and having fun," she said.

Jolie will star alongside Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, and Kit Harington in "The Eternals."

Sony Pictures and Marvel have found a way to get back in the Spider-Man business together.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and The Walt Disney Studios jointly announced that Marvel Studios and its President Kevin Feige will produce the third film in the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" series, starring Tom Holland. The film is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021. As part of the arrangement, Spider-Man will also appear in a future Marvel Studios film. Amy Pascal will also produce through Pascal Pictures, as she has on the first two Holland-led films.

"I am thrilled that Spidey's journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it," said Feige. "Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold."

Over the summer, news broke that the Disney, Marvel's parent company, and Sony had reached an impasse over a new financing deal. Disney wanted the film to be financed on a 50/50 basis with Marvel Studios chief Feige remaining in a consulting producer capacity. Sony is believed to have proposed keeping the arrangement under the current terms, which stipulate that Marvel receives about 5% of first-dollar gross and all merchandising revenues.

  • "We were really prepared to move on with Sony, but we're so happy to be working with Marvel again," said Batalon.

Spider-Man is officially back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Spidey's best friend couldn't be more thrilled.

"It's so amazing," Jacob Batalon, who plays Peter Parker's friend Ned, told Insider on Friday.

"It's really crazy. We were really prepared to move on with Sony, but we're so happy to be working with Marvel again," Batalon said.

In August, the two studios couldn't come to terms on a new deal to continue making Spider-Man movies together. As a result, Spider-Man was no longer going to be a part of the MCU, meaning he wouldn't be in movies with the rest of the Avengers.

Sony Pictures, which owns the rights to use Spider-Man in its own movies, planned to continue the "Spider-Man" movie franchise on its own.

Batalon said when they originally found out about the Marvel and Sony deal falling apart, they were a bit bummed, but was confident the franchise would have carried on with or without Marvel.

"We were genuinely shocked," Batalon said of when they first learned Spidey was out of the MCU. "But, I feel like actors, for the most part, we're not invested in that sort of sense that the producers are. We don't have a say."

"We were prepared to move on with Sony, but being back together with Marvel is really great. I'm really happy," he added.

When Insider spoke with Batalon, he hadn't yet spoken about the new Marvel and Sony deal with costars Tom Holland or Zendaya, but it's likely they'll discuss it at some point in the near future.

"We're all sort of busy right now, but I'm sure we'll talk about it very soon," Batalon said, sharing that while the three of them don't have a chat thread, they do stay in touch when they're not filming.

"We really just call and text each other whenever," he said. "We always end up seeing each other all over the place."

Both Zendaya and Holland have already shared their feelings about Spidey being back in the MCU on social media. Zendaya shared a GIF of Spider-Man dancing.

The Spider-Man actor shared a clip on Instagram from "The Wolf of Wall Street"with Leonardo DiCaprio screaming out, "I'm not leaving."

The next standalone "Spider-Man" movie, produced by Marvel and Sony, will be in theaters on July 16, 2021. "Spider-Man: Far From Home" is available on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday.

Tom Holland and other celebrities have reacted to Spider-Man being back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Marvel and Sony reached an agreement.

On Friday, it was revealed that the two studios will be coproducing the third "Spider-Man" film, which hits theaters on July 16, 2021. The webslinger's fate was previously uncertain after a deal between Marvel and Sony fell through.

After news broke about Marvel and Sony teaming up for the upcoming sequel, Holland posted a scene from the 2013 movie "The Wolf of Wall Street," which showed Leonardo DiCaprio's character giving a speech about "not leaving."

"I'm not leaving," DiCaprio said in the film. "I'm not leaving. I'm not f---ing leaving. The show goes on."

Celebrities who saw Holland's post were thrilled and shared their reactions.

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" costar Zendaya, who plays MJ, posted four crying-laughing emojis. She also tweeted a GIF of an animated Spider-Man dancing.

Tony Revolori, who plays social media-obsessed Flash Thompson in the franchise, wrote: "Perfect!!!" Remy Hii, who stars as fellow student Brad Davis, said, "Nailed it."

Mark Ruffalo (Hulk/Bruce Banner) also weighed in on the news by writing: "Back in a snap! Had a feeling we would see you again [green heart emoji]." The actor's comment was a reference to Thanos' "Infinity War" snap, which turned several characters (like Spider-Man) to dust. The characters were brought back in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame."

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who recently struck up a friendship with the actor, wrote: "F---. Yes. [drinking glass emoji]. "Rocketman" star Taron Egerton shared three emojis to sum up how he felt: a spider, raised hands, and a heart.

Jacob Batalon, who plays Peter's best friend Ned, told Insider's Kirsten Acuna that "it's so amazing."

"We were really prepared to move on with Sony, but we're so happy to be working with Marvel again," Batalon said.

Holland is the third actor to play the webslinger from Queens in a major franchise (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield previously portrayed the character). The 23-year-old star made his debut in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War." Holland has since starred in a standalone Spider-Man movie (2017's "Homecoming") and "Infinity War."

In 2019, Holland appeared in "Avengers: Endgame" and "Far From Home." Both movies hit $1 billion at the box office, and "Far From Home" became Sony's highest-grossing movie of the year.

  • Warning: There are spoilers ahead for "Spider-Man: Far From Home."
  • J.K. Simmons reprised his role as J. Jonah Jameson during the credits for the sequel.
  • The moment was a big shock to audiences and to some of the cast.
  • "[I was] really, really pleasantly surprised," Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in the franchise, told Insider during press for the film coming to Blu-ray on October 1.
  • Batalon said Jameson's character was in the script when he read it, but at the time they didn't know it would be Simmons reprising his role from the original Spider-Man franchise.

You weren't the only one who was surprised to see J.K. Simmons reprise his role as "Daily Bugle" editor in chief J. Jonah Jameson in "Spider-Man: Far From Home."

"I think we all sort of found out when we first watched it," Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in "Far From Home," told Insider while discussing the movie for its release on Blu-ray.

Simmons shows up in one of the movie's two end-credits scenes which shows him reveal Spider-Man's secret identity as Peter Parker. He first played Jameson in the original "Spider-Man" trilogy with Tobey Maguire.

Before they even knew Simmons would be appearing in the film as the head of the "Daily Bugle," Batalon said he and some of the cast chatted about how it would be cool for the actor to be in the film.

"We were just saying how interesting and how awesome, how much of a fan service it would be to have [Jameson] be J.K. Simmons again," said Batalon. "So, to have to have him on screen and then be with the crowd and hear the reaction was very satisfying. And meeting J.K. Simmons, him as a person, he's so cool."

Watch how the 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' illusion battle took nine months to make

  • One of the stand-out animated sequences of the summer was the illusion battle in "Spider-man: Far From Home."
  • This sequence took 120 animators at London-based Framestore up to 9 months to make.
  • It wouldn't have been possible without influence from Harry Potter, The Matrix or even James Bond.
  • Visual Effects Supervisor Alexis Wasjbrot, who previously worked on "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Dr. Strange" explains to us how it was created.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

"Spider-man: Far From Home" was one of the biggest movies of 2019.

In a central battle sequence, Spider-man visits what he believes to be the Berlin office of Europol, but instead it's a trap set by Mysterio. The villain uses holographic techniques and projector drones to create a sequence of horrifying illusions.

Although the movie's VFX was completed by a combination of companies, Framestore was responsible for this thrilling section. To make a sequence like this, the shots must go through different stages, with 120 employees all working in unison: Modelling, texture, shading, rigging, animation, rendering and lighting the shot.

To begin, the Framestore art department worked on creative references with director Jon Watts and VFX Supervisor Janek Sirrs. Visual references included the comic books, surrealist paintings, and other Hollywood movies such as "The Matrix" and "Spectre."

The transitions from one scene to another were particularly difficult. They used an FX-driven transition dubbed the 'B.A.R.F' effect, which is based on the transition used by Iron Man in a scene from "Captain America: Civil War."

FX such as Mysterio's blast, or the smoke inside his helmet, were created by other vendors. Framestore create the FX of green smoke and applied it to different environments. The texture of the smoke can be dry ice, wispy, or thick like a floor.

The sequence involved three main Spider-man suits. The Home-Made suit, as seen in "Spider-man: Homecoming," the Stealth suit, and the Homecoming suit. At one stage, we see Spidey in a 'Shard room', where he looks at multiple versions of himself, all moving independently. For this, the team had to create 20 individual animated Spider-man suits.

They also had to design the character suit for a zombified Iron Man.

Although the wings might look heavy, the fan told us that they're quite the opposite since they're made of foam.

We had to do a double-take at this Newt Scamander.

XXXX.

This Chappie look like he stepped right out of the movie.

This cosplayer even had the character's money dollar sign.

Ryan Jude Novelline was back at Comic Con this year to show off his Good Fairy look.

Novelline said this look was inspired by "Sleeping Beauty" and he worked around the clock to get the piece ready for NYCC. Novelline said it's "a piece that celebrates not just the final character, but the process of creating one."

Previously, he brought a blue fairy-tale look to life at 2017's Comic Con that rivaled Elsa's magical look in "Frozen."

Iconic Disney princess Belle opted for a small Beast stuffed animal.

She just needed the rest of her Disney princesses.

This Darth Vader got glam for the event complete with a tiara.

This wasn't the only cosplayer we saw dressed in a gown as Vader. It was a fresh take on the character.

This is the vehicle we've been looking for. People were excited whenever this "Star Wars" X-wing-themed stroller rolled by.

Carvin deLeon told us little Victor's uncle built the X-wing design for only about $3. It's mostly cardboard, duct tape, some Poland Spring water bottles, and a lot of creativity.

Everyone was a fan of this giant Panda that was seen walking around.

We happened to spot him just as a convincing Mr. T cosplayer posed with him.

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" villains were out in full force on Friday.

Shredder and and this impressive Krang were also roaming the showroom floor.

We'll continue adding more cosplay throughout the rest of New York Comic Con.

See any great cosplay we missed? Send it my way in an email to kacuna@insider.com

This impressive Dark Knight looked like he was trying to solve a mystery.

This is the suit that Ben Affleck was seen wearing in "Batman Vs. Superman."

Samuel L. Jackson has responded to Martin Scorsese's criticism of Marvel movies, after the director claimed they were "not cinema".

Speaking to Variety, Jackson said: "I mean that's like saying Bugs Bunny ain't funny. Films are films. Everybody doesn't like [Scorsese's] stuff either," he said.

"We happen to, but not everybody [does]," he continued. "There are a lot of Italian-Americans who don't think he should be making films about them like that."

"Everybody's got an opinion, so I mean it's okay," Jackson added. "Ain't going to stop nobody from making movies."

In an interview with Empire Magazine published last week, Scorsese said that he had "tried" to watch movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that they are "not cinema".

"Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks," he said. "It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."

The comments earned immediate criticism from Marvel fans, while "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn expressed sadness over Scorsese's statements in his own tweet.

"Martin Scorsese is one of my five favorite living filmmakers," Gunn wrote. "I was outraged when people picketed "The Last Temptation of Christ" without having seen the film. I'm saddened that he's now judging my films in the same way."

Jennifer Aniston has bemoaned the lack of good film roles, saying that Hollywood is "diminishing" with all the "big Marvel movies."

The "Friends" star, who is making her TV comeback with her new series "The Morning Show," explained that she is returning to television because she is not "that interested in living in a green screen."

"You're seeing what's available out there and it's just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it's big Marvel movies," Aniston told Variety. "Or things that I'm not just asked to do or really that interested in living in a green screen."

She added that the movie business has "changed so much."

"I think we would so love to have the era of Meg Ryan come back," she said.

"I just think it would be nice to go into a movie theatre, sit cozy. I think we should have a resurgence. Let's get the 'Terms of Endearment' back out there. You know, 'Heaven Can Wait,' 'Young Frankenstein,' 'Blazing Saddles,' 'Goodbye Girl.'"

Elsewhere in the interview, Aniston reflected on the TV role she is most famous for: Rachel Green in "Friends."

"I think the reason ["Friends"] still continues to be popular is that the its thesis was that you don't need a romantic partner if your friends are everything. That was an idea that was ahead of its time.

"It makes you happy. Even when I stumble on it, it makes me happy. I love it and I've also forgotten most of it, so it's really fun for me to rediscover."

In her new series "The Morning Show," Aniston plays a veteran anchor who finds herself in the spotlight after her famous male colleague, portrayed by Steve Carell, is fired over sexual misconduct allegations.

"The Morning Show" is set to premiere on Apple TV+ in the US on November 1, 2019.

  • "It is confusing because there are so many Marvel movies," she told Elle.
  • "To be honest, I haven't seen very many of them. It's really stupid and I'm sorry, but I'm a 47-year-old mother."

"Avengers: Endgame" star Gwyneth Paltrow defended her confusion over which Marvel movies she's appeared in during a new interview with Elle

Paltrow's forgetfulness has become something of a joke on the internet, but the actress didn't seem too concerned, telling Elle she "never" reads things online.

"It is confusing because there are so many Marvel movies, and to be honest, I haven't seen very many of them," Paltrow said.

"It's really stupid and I'm sorry, but I'm a 47-year-old mother," she continued.

In the Marvel cinematic universe, Paltrow plays Pepper Potts, a CEO of Stark Industries and love interest of Tony Stark. She eventually marries Stark and has a child with him, before he sacrifices himself to disintegrate Thanos' army at the end of "Avengers: Endgame."

Paltrow has appeared in numerous Marvel movies as Pepper, including all three "Iron Man" films, and most recently "Avengers: Endgame."

Paltrow's confusion over which films she's appeared in has led to some lighthearted teasing from costars like Tom Holland and Sebastian Stan.

After a video of Paltrow realizing she was actually in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" went viral in June, Holland, who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man, had a cheeky response to his costar's poor memory.

"I mean, I always know what movie I'm in," Holland joked to GQ Style. Despite the joke, Holland went on to defend Paltrow.

"I mean, you could be on set and you might not know what planet you're on or who you're fighting or who the superhero on your left is," he said of filming a Marvel movie.

Paltrow's "Endgame" costar Stan hilariously called out the actress in an Instagram post from July.

"Glad I got to reintroduce myself to @gwynethpaltrow for the third time. We are in the same film...[shrugging emoji]," Stan captioned a photo of him, Paltrow, and other stars at Paris Fashion Week.

But Jon Favreau, who appeared with Paltrow in "Homecoming," also came to the star's defense.

"With the Marvel things, they have so many films happening at the same time and all of them interweave with one another. Oftentimes you're not exactly sure what's happening, even me," Favreau told Variety in July.

He went on to tell "Access Hollywood" in September that Paltrow "doesn't dwell on or look at her performances in the past."

"She'll show up at the premiere, she'll show up on set," Favreau said. "She doesn't like to linger on playback or see things."

"Some actors, like me, I tend to like to look at the screen and watch what I did and come back, but she very much trusts the director," he continued.

"She does the work, she sees the film at the premiere, and then she moves on to other things."
